Effective laser treatment for unwanted spider veins

What are spider veins?

Spider veins are thin veins that sit just under the surface of the skin, and are usually red, purple, blue, or brown in colour. They are called ‘spider’ veins due to their thin appearance, similar to that of a spider’s web.

Spider veins are usually an early or mild symptom of varicose veins disease, and may cause some pain or discomfort.

In other cases, people simply do not like their appearance.

Where do spider veins appear?

Spider veins can appear almost anywhere on the body, however they are usually most prevalent on the legs, hands, chest, and face.

Spider veins sit under the skin’s surface; unlike varicose veins, they are flat and do not cause bumps or bulges on the skin.

How do spider veins form?

Spider veins appear when valves within your veins malfunction, allowing blood to flow in the opposite direction, away from your heart.

The blood, moving in the ‘wrong’ direction, can back up and lead to dead veins, hence the appearance of these blue/red lines.

Spider veins are usually hereditary, so if your mum or dad had them, then you will most likely develop them, too.

Men and women of any age can develop spider veins, though they become more common as we age.

Spider veins can make your skin look damaged, red, splotchy and aged. The good news is, you don’t have to live with them. There’s a laser skin treatment that can help remove unwanted spider veins and skin redness.

Can spider veins be treated by laser?

Introducing the excel®V+ laser!

The excel®V+ laser is the latest laser treatment at Vitality Laser & Skin for vascular and pigmentation treatments.

The excel®V+ laser safely and effectively treats a number of skin factors that age you including age/liver spots, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture, and of course, unsightly spider veins.

How does the excel®V+ work to treat spider veins?

The excel®V+ laser uses a high-power laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The laser heats those abnormal vessels causing the vein walls to collapse and seal shut.

Over time, the treated vessels will no longer be visible.

How long does it take to see results from the excel®V+ laser?

The number of treatments you’ll need will depend on the size and thickness of your spider veins, though most patients will see an improvement after just one or two treatments!

Results will vary between patients, but your clinician will discuss this with you when you come and see us for a consultation.

Are there any side effects of the excel®V+ laser?

The possible side effects of laser skin treatment are few.

Some patients may experience redness or swelling, while others may experience some bruising or blistering. These side effects are usually mild and last for a very short period of time.

Most patients will see significant improvement of their veins within 2 to 6 weeks.

What other skin conditions the excel® V+ can treat?

The excel®V+ laser can also treat all common skin concerns, including skin redness and rosacea, melasma and pigmentation, birthmarks, surgical scars and the effects of sun damage.

Book a consultation with one of our dermal clinicians today and say goodbye to spider veins!

6 way excel®V+ will change your skin

We may be a bit biased but we think the excel®V+ laser is one of the best things to happen to skin repair.

Smooth, clear skin is now possible! Here are six ways the excel®V+ laser from Cutera can transform your skin and help you enjoy glowing, revitalised, and healthy skin.

1. It can help remove acne scars

The pain of having acne in the first place is unbearable, but then to have a permanent reminder of it through scarring?

No thanks.

The excel®V+ laser is a remarkable treatment when it comes to reducing acne scars.

The powerful and precise laser can smooth out your skin, reducing – and in many cases eliminating – acne scars.

Enjoy a clearer, smoother face and boosted confidence following your treatments!

Acne, blemishes, and congestion can be caused by a large number of factors, including genetics, diet, hormones, and drugs.

No matter the cause, speak to our qualified clinicians to find out how our laser treatments can reduce the appearance of acne, its associated scars, and other skin concerns.

2. It can remove spider veins

Has it become an instinctive habit to cover your legs and hide your spider veins?

Show off your great pins again! The excel®V+ uses a high-power laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The laser heats those abnormal vessels causing the vein walls to collapse and seal shut.

Over time, the treated vessels will no longer be visible.

3. It can remove sun spots

Sunspots – as the name suggests – are caused by excessive exposure to the sun.

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light speeds up melanin production, resulting in darkened pigmentation which leads to visible spots and an uneven skin tone.

Sunspots and pigmentation are two damaging skin factors that can make us look the most aged – yes, some people even regard pigmentation as more aging than even wrinkles!

Your clinician will advise you on how many treatments are recommended, but in many cases, patients see improvements from their very first session!

4. It can help reduce the appearance of redness

Does your flushed, red skin impact your confidence? Is it hard to cover with makeup? Are you sick of people constantly asking you if you’re hot or embarrassed?

Rosacea and diffused redness can impact anyone, of any age and skin colour, though it is most prevalent in both men and women aged between 30 and 50, with fair skin.

Its cause is not known, however genetics can play a role.

The excel®V+ can treat the blood vessels under the skin by improving blood flow, easing constricted veins, and improving oxygen circulation.

As a result, this helps to relieve flushed, red, and inflamed skin, improving overall skin tone and texture.

5. Does the excel®V+ laser hurt? Good news: it’s painless!

With the excel®V+ laser, discolouration, pigmentation, sunspots, and raised spots can be removed without surgery, pain or downtime.

The smart cooling system also delivers consistent cooling before, during, and after each laser ‘pulse’ ensuring a comfortable and pain-free experience.

We’ve had patients liken the feeling of the laser to warm raindrops. Unlike cosmetic surgery,
there is no pain, anaesthetic or downtime.

6. You’ll start to see the results immediately

Although the full effect of the excel®V+ laser can take up to 6 weeks to see, for most treatments, you’ll leave our Geelong clinic noticing a big difference straight away!

During your consultation, your clinician will advise how many treatments you’ll need to get the best possible outcome.

The excel®V+ laser can also treat birthmarks, surgical scars, enlarged pores and sun damage.
